Velvet Drapery Panels
The soft plush feel of velvet makes it a popular fabric for
many things. As a window covering, velvet drapery panels offer a wide array of benefits to create harmony in
the interior of your home and privacy from the outside of your home.
Velvet is often a higher priced material as longer processing
is required to manufacture and a high amount of thread is used. It is woven as a double cloth on a double
loom then the cloth is sliced in half to make two separate pieces, resulting in the fuzzy, cozy feel of velvet.
Velvet acts in drapery to be an effective sun block with full privacy. A sheer under-curtain is a great
addition to velvet drapes as the combination of the two fabrics creates a visually appealing sight. When the
velvet drapes are pulled back, the sheer drapery is still there for light privacy and to lessen the intensity of
the sun.
Depending on the style of a room the best window treatment can
vary. Any room can suit the various options available through the use of curtains or draperies. Even if
a room already has blinds or another hard material for the window covering, a fabric around the window - like a
valance or drapery panels - will create added appeal and better coordinate the room.
Take a few minutes to sit down and write out what it is you’re
looking to achieve with a window treatment. The colours of fabric tend to make the mood of a room.
Lighter colours create a vibrant, energizing feel, which are good in bathrooms, kitchens and some bedrooms,
specifically children’s bedrooms. Darker and richer colours create a more relaxing and cozy feel to a room,
which are commonly desired in family rooms, living rooms, and some bedrooms. Prints and designs on drapery
will also add interest and activity and can be mood-creating depending on whether it’s an intricately detailed
design or a fun whimsical print.
For the more luxurious window hanging the drapery should be
very full, using enough fabric to cover the width of the window 2-3 times. Interlining is another thing that
adds a nice full look and is necessary for some types of fabrics like silk or to have more density to block out the
sunlight better. To give lighter fabrics, like silk more body and movement, a think flannel is the most
suitable interlining. As for linings; the crisp linen drapery is best suited with a cotton lining, which
creates a more appealing flow of the material. Sateen lining is used when heavier backings are needed, like
for silks and jacquards. For semi blackout linings, a suede backed lining is used for its lighter feel and is
most appropriate for denser fabrics like velvet, suede or chenille.
With so many drapery options you will be able to able to add colour, texture and personality to every room.
Velvet drapery panels exude intense sophistication and warmth, especially when a sheer curtain is included. A
tailored velvet fabric embracing your window will be sure to get noticed and
enjoyed.
